From former professional racers to long-time cycling enthusiasts, each member of our Board of Directors brings unique expertise and a deep commitment to promoting the sport.

Our leadership team works tirelessly to organize events, support members, advocate for cycling safety, and expand the club’s reach both locally and across North America.

Solomon Habte – Chair

Former Professional Cyclist | Eritrean National Team | Champion & Mentor

Solomon Habte is a former professional cyclist who competed with Eritrean team Asbeco and represented the Eritrean National Team in national and continental competitions. His career highlights include a stage win at the Tour du Rwanda and top-10 finishes at the Tour of Eritrea and Tour du Rwanda. With years of experience at the highest levels of African cycling, Solomon brings leadership, passion, and expertise to EriCan Cycling Club.

As Chair, Solomon oversees the club’s strategic direction, partnerships, and advocacy efforts, working to make cycling more accessible, safe, and enjoyable for all. His vision is to inspire and supportcyclists, especially young riders and newcomers, in discovering the transformative power of cycling.

Samuel Woldetensae – Vice Chair

Veteran Cyclist | Co-Founder of EriCan

Samuel Woldetensae is a veteran cyclist and co-founder of EriCan Cycling Club. Over 15 years ago, he played a key role in forming the original cycling group that eventually grew into today’s EriCan CC. 

Since arriving in Canada, he has been passionately cycling for over 15 years, participating in countless cycling events and inspiring others to embrace the sport.

As Vice Chair, Samuel works closely with the Chair to support club operations, member engagement, and strategic growth. His long-standing dedication to cycling and leadership within EriCan CC make him a vital part of the club’s mission to foster an inclusive and welcoming cycling community.

Solomon Tekie – Treasurer

Veteran Cyclist | Co-Founder of EriCan

Solomon Tekie is a co-founder of the original EriCan Cycling group and a former cyclist from Eritreawith many years of experience in the sport. A dedicated and passionate rider, he has been actively involved in the cycling community, regularly riding with groups such as Major Taylor Cycling Club Toronto and other cycling communities.

As Treasurer of EriCan Cycling Club, Solomon is responsible for managing the club’s finances, ensuring transparency, and overseeing funding and sponsorship initiatives. His deep-rooted connection to the cycling world, both locally and internationally, helps strengthen the club’s financial sustainability while fostering a strong and inclusive cycling culture.

Amine Goitom – Secretary

Amine Goitom is an experienced administrator with a strong background in club management and communications. He ensures efficient record-keeping, handles membership coordination, and supports event logistics. Amine’s attention to detail and organizational skills help maintain the club’s operational efficiency.

Tesfay Tesfamariam – Communication Director

Tesfay Tesfamariam is responsible for managing EriCan Cycling Club’s communications, including social media, website updates, and member engagement. His passion for storytelling helps amplify the club’s mission and connect with a broader audience.

Temesghen Tsige – Events Director

Temesghen Tsige is a seasoned event organizer with a strong passion for community engagement. He plans and coordinates all club events, including annual rides, social gatherings, and charity events, ensuring that members have a fulfilling and active cycling experience.

Awet Iyassu – Sports Director

Former Professional Cyclist | Eritrean National Team | African Continental Champion

Awet Iyassu is a former professional cyclist who raced with RedSea Cycling Club in Eritrea and was a member of the Eritrean National Team . Competing at both national and African continental levels, he participated in All African games in 2007. Awet was part of the historic Eritrean team that won the first African Continental Championship in Nairobi, Kenya—an achievement that earned the team a presidential dinner in recognition of their success.

Following his national and continental success, Awet went to South African, who was the first Eritrean to be selected to UCI African continental cycling centre for two months training and racing  professionally.

As Sports Director of EriCan Cycling Club, Awet brings world-class experience to the team, focusing on training programs, skill development, and race participation. His goal is to help members enhance their cycling performance, build confidence on the road, and foster a competitive spirit within the club.

 

 

Berhane Tesfamariam – Advisor & Auditor
Former Professional Cyclist | Expert Mechanic | Team Mentor & Leader
 
Berhane Tesfamariam is a former professional cyclist who competed with Team Gegante in Eritrea during the pioneering 2000s era of Eritrean cycling. A fierce competitor and passionate rider, he was known for his dedication, team spirit, and leadership on and off the bike.
 
Beyond racing, Berhane is also a highly skilled cycling mechanic, providing invaluable technical support and mentorship to teammates throughout his career. His expertise in bike maintenance and performance optimization has made him a respected figure within the cycling community.
 
As Advisor & Auditor at EriCan Cycling Club, Berhane brings deep connections with former cyclists, a wealth of experience, and a strong competitive spirit. His leadership, enthusiasm, and ability to foster team camaraderie will help propel the club forward, ensuring both fun and success in all aspects of cycling.

Petros Habteab – Advisor & Auditor

Business & Strategic Planning Expert | Cycling Safety Advocate

With a background in business and strategic planning, Petros Habteab plays a key role in supporting EriCan Cycling Club as an Advisor & Auditor. His insights help strengthen the club’s long-term vision, ensuring it remains a sustainable and impactful organization.

In addition to his financial and strategic contributions, Petros is a strong advocate for cycling safety. He promotes best practices for road safety, risk management, and responsible riding, helping to create a secure and enjoyable environment for all members. His guidance is instrumental in enhancing the club’s safety culture and reinforcing EriCan’s commitment to rider well-being.
